Steve recently spoke to ARA’s (previously CPIT) Engineering students at their Orientation Industry Evening. The event was a great success with ARA giving credit to Steve for his interesting presentation and thanking him for his valuable contribution. As Steve is on the board of IPENZ (Institution of Professional Engineers, New Zealand), he is often called upon to give talks to attract new talent to the industry.
At the recent IPENZ (Institution of Professional Engineers NZ) Transportation Group conference held in Auckland, Abley’s Courtney Groundwater won an award for ‘Highly Commended Best Young Professional Paper’ for her work on the New Plymouth Model Community Evaluation. This study provides an economic evaluation New Plymouth’s ‘Lets Go’ initiatives using cost benefit analysis. Courtney presented a poster at the conference – see here. Congratulations Courtney on winning your award.
Hamish has been awarded the 3M Traffic Safety Young Professional Award and the Best Young Professional Award at the recent 2016 IPENZ (Institution of Professional Engineers NZ) Transportation Group Conference in Auckland. These awards are for the work Hamish has performed on investigating how road safety metrics can be incorporated into vehicle routing networks. It’s great to see GIS being recognised in the engineering domain and it shows how versatile GIS can be.
Recently five Abley staff members had abstracts accepted for the 2016 Walk and Cycle Conference. All abstracts focused on improving safety and provision for cyclists, pedestrians and people with disabilities using our roads. Dave Smith will present ‘A smarter tool for selecting safe and effective pedestrian crossings’ , Jeanette Ward will present ‘Cycle parking revolution’, Bridget Southey-Jensen will present ‘Cycle safety at intersections’, Ann-Marie Head will present ‘Cycle route choice - Optimising safety and efficiency for people who cycle’, and Tracy Fleming will present ‘Improving the transport environment for people with disabilities’. Congratulations to these staff for their good work. The 2016 2 Walk and Cycle Conference is being held in Auckland 6 - 8 July.
