Well done to Dave Smith and Robyn Hyde, who had their research report published by the New Zealand Transport Agency recently. "Research Report 616: Assessing the value of public transport as a network" explored the elements that influence the value of a public transport service and developed a framework that proposes to extend the NZ Transport Agency's economic evaluation procedures.
Ways to measure the value of public transport in New Zealand are currently limited and often only consider finacial aspects. NZ Transport Agency engaged Abley Transportation Consultants to develop a mechanism for measuring this value, in order to gain a greater understanding of the value of public transport to the network as a whole. This research enables public transport planners to better measure social, economic and accessibility values of public transport, taking into account community and political sensitivities.
