A selection of the tools that our experts regularly use is set out below:
Strategic transport modelling is undertaken using Cube Base and Cube Voyager modelling software. Cube is used worldwide for three-step and four-step transportation modelling to demonstrate the impact of roading and public transport infrastructure investment, the impact of residential and commercial development, and the impact of changes in transport policy including a range of travel demand management measures. Cube models can be developed for all modes of transport and link closely to the Arc-GIS software, another of Abley Transportation Consultants core strengths. Cube generates decision-making information quickly with outputs including network statistics, high-quality plots, graphs and animations enabling detailed assessments to be undertaken by experienced transportation professionals and interpretation by fellow professionals and non-traffic experts alike.

S-Paramics simulates the individual components of traffic flow and congestion, and presents its output as a real-time visual display for traffic management and road network design. S-Paramics represents the actions and inter-actions of individual vehicles as they travel through a road network. It models the detailed physical road layout, and includes features such as bus operations, traffic signal settings, driver behavioural characteristics and vehicle kinematics. As a consequence, S-Paramics can accurately portray the variables circumstances which lead to congestion in all types and sizes of road network.
S-Paramics enables non traffic experts, such as the public and their elected representatives, to interactively test 'what if' scenarios and immediately see the results in terms of real-time flows and congestion. The most widely used micro-simulation in the UK for applications at all scales, S-Paramics brings new standards of integrity and veracity to traffic flow modelling.

SIDRA Intersection is an advanced micro-analytical traffic evaluation tool that employs lane-by-lane and vehicle drive cycle models. Abley Transportation Consultants use SIDRA to assess intersection capacity, level of service and performance analysis for different types of intersections including priority, roundabouts and traffic signals.
The performance of an intersection often determines the overall road network performance. Assessing intersection performance enables Abley Transportation Consultants to determine if a development is appropriate and able to be accommodated on the existing road network or what mitigation is required to support that development.
ArcGIS is a comprehensive geographic information system (GIS) software for visualizing, managing, creating, and analyzing geographic data. ArcGIS enables the understanding of the geographic context of data, allowing users to see relationships and identify patterns in new ways. ArcGIS aids Abley Transportation Consultants in geospatial analysis, mapping, visualisation, modelling and data administration.
ArcGIS Network Analyst is an ArcGIS extension that provides network-based spatial analysis including routing, travel directions, closest facility, and service area analysis. ArcGIS Network Analyst enables Abley Transportation Consultants to dynamically model realistic network conditions, including turn restrictions, speed limits, height restrictions, and traffic conditions, at different times of the day.

The TRICS Database provides UK and Ireland multi modal trip generation data for a variety of land uses. This provides Abley Transportation Consultants with a significant library of information to predict trip generation rates and the number of transportation journeys that a development might generate.
Analyses can be carried out for individual surveys or as an average of a number of surveys. Trip rate calculations show how many traffic/people arrivals or departures can take place at a type of site for a given calculation factor e.g. 100m2 Gross Floor Area, Employee, Household, etc. There are a number of options within the system that enables Abley Transportation Consultants to fine tune any required specifications.

The TDB Database provides NZ vehicle trip generation data for a variety of land uses. This provides Abley Transportation Consultants with a significant library of information to predict vehicle trip generation rates and the number of vehicle journeys that a development might generate.

Python is a dynamic object-oriented programming language that can be used for many kinds of software development. Abley Transportation Consultants use Python primarily for creating automated geospatial analysis models, but also for analysing, verifying and editing large amounts of text-based data involved in complex engineering tasks.

Metro Count Traffic Executive allows the detailed interrogation and reporting of MetroCount data files. A significant number of local and regional council and contractors now use MetroCount 'counters' for surveying vehicle flows. Abley Transportation Consultants ability to request these data files, interrogate the axel by axel data, and produce results specific to a client need provides efficiency and processing enhancements.
