Abley is an IPENZ Professional Development Partner and considers providing experience to new professionals of the upmost importance. Each year Abley recruits several engineering graduates who start on a journey ultimately leading to becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer. Our planning and GIS staff are also encouraged to complete the relevant professional certification in their respective industry. Upon commencing work, graduates are inducted to each of the service areas which Abley works in. Graduates are placed in a team which normally specialises in a few service areas and are then rotated around different teams over their first few years of work to give them exposure to the many different areas of transport engineering, planning and/or GIS.
Regular catch-ups are organised between team members and their team managers to receive feedback and talk to their managers about any issues or aspirations they may have. A more comprehensive career planning session is conducted every six months. This session involves setting formal goals, planning a pathway to achieve these goals and ensuring that any previously set goals have been met or are in the process of being met.
We are an accredited IPENZ Professional Development Partner (PDP). PDPs work in partnership with IPENZ to develop their engineering staff, strengthen their business and support the wider engineering profession. They range from small and medium-sized engineering businesses to large organisations with offshore branches or affiliations. PDPs believe a strong professional development programme with pathways to IPENZ competence-based Membership classes (MIPENZ, TIPENZ or AIPENZ) and registers (CPEng, ETPract or CertETn) will enhance the status and standing of our people, and be a key mechanism for attracting and retaining staff.
Recognition as an IPENZ PDP signals to current and prospective employees an organisation’s strong commitment to the development of their engineering staff and support for the engineering profession.
Graduates will initially see the most benefit from the PDP programme. They can expect:

This is an internationally recognised qualification in the GIS industry.
