About Jess

Jess comes from a legal background, where her extensive administration and legislative experience provide an excellent foundation for a transition into financial administration. Jess is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Accounting, whilst providing financial administration support to the Abley team.

What Jess has to say:

What made you decide to work in Financial administration?

While spending my first decade of employment within the legal sphere, I decided to further my education to support my career aspirations. However, I felt that transitioning into finance would provide a broader range of career opportunities and offer the work-life balance Iim seeking.

What did you do before joining Abley?

The majority of my pre-Abley career involved high level legal administrative support predominately centered around insurance and financial advice dispute litigation. This encompassed a number of years living and working in both Australia and Ireland, prior to returning to settle back in New Zealand.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Knowing I contribute to the smooth running of the back office functions is satisfying. But it is the culture and team at Abley that really makes this job enjoyable.

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

Although finance appears from the outside to be quite ‘black and white’, there are always anomalies to decipher and decide best accounting treatment to keep you on your toes.

What’s been your career highlight so far?

Making the move to change my career path and obtaining this great opportunity at Abley is certainly the highlight of my new career.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy getting outdoors and being active – this includes medium distance running for fitness, social netball, water skiing and horse riding. But I equally relish the opportunity to read a good book when my studies allow a break from textbooks.
