The focus of this year’s Transportation Group Conference is “Equity in Transportation”. The speakers and delegates will explore what it means to develop transport solutions that are multi-modal, environmentally friendly, healthier and safer for all.

To welcome everyone, the local Group branch committee are hosting a social event for those arriving in the city and local group members. Abley is proudly sponsoring the bar tab for this event as we think it is important to recognise the effort that the local branches put into organising the conference - we currently have three of our transport team members on the organising committee. Out of town delegates will be impressed with the central city reshaping since the conference was last here in 2015. See you on Tuesday evening at Retropolitan Social Club from 5.30pm-7.30pm.

Abley is a finalist for the 3M Safety Innovation Award to be presented at the conference dinner on Thursday night, for Safer Journeys Risk Assessment Tool (Megamaps), which Haris is presenting on Thursday at the conference (see below). Abley have eight people presenting across the three days:

  • Bridget Carden - “Corridor Safety Assessment Framework for Vulnerable Road Users”
  • Haris Zia - “Safe speeds for all”
  • Shane Turner (two presentations) - “Managing downstream effects of the CNC” and “Safety of digital billboard installations”
  • Matt Allan - “Cycleway tactiles, what is best practice?”
  • Shendi Mani is presenting a poster on “High Risk Corridors: Pedestrian Crossing Prioritisation”
  • Ben Jassin is presenting a poster on “NZ cycle network proximity analysis”
  • Jeanette Ward, “Making raised intersections work for walking”, “Women in Urbanism – Towards Transport Equity” (on behalf of Dale Harris)
  • Tracy Fleming, “Applying healthy streets audits”

The programme of speakers and presentations can be found here. The conference is being held at the Christchurch Town Hall from 10 – 13 March 2020, we wish everyone a great conference.
