Journal of the Australasian College of Road Safety: Not all Roads are Created Equal

Posted on: 16 May 2017

Recent work by Abley in collaboration with NZTA and other agencies has been published in the latest edition of the Journal of Australasian College of Road Safety (page 36). NZTA’s Speed Management Guide guides and supports local authorities in their efforts to put in place speed management measures. The technical framework of the guide provides a single assessment for determining safe and appropriate speed at a network level, and aligns travelling speeds with road function. This work focuses on the technical framework to the Waikato region and includes analysis of intervention strategies to road sections where speed management would have a high benefit in terms of safety and efficiency.

Wins for Abley at 2017 IPENZ Transportation Conference

Posted on: 6 April 2017     Tags: ,

Carl O’Neil and Paul Durdin recently won the AA award for ‘Best Paper’ and the award for ‘Best Practice Paper’ at the IPENZ Transportation Group Conference in Hamilton. The paper entitled ‘A fresh approach for prioritising and treating high risk curves’ was based on a road safety project commissioned by Transport for New South Wales.  The project used a combination of geospatial technology and other analytical methods to identify road corridors which had a poor safety record on curves. The project represents an innovative approach to enhancing rural road safety and uses a method of identification and treatment that is consistent and thorough. We congratulate Carl and Paul on their win.

Christmas was a very chocolatey affair at Abley this year!

Posted on: 21 December 2016

Abley’s annual Christmas party was held at She Chocolate in Governors Bay. Staff were treated to some live theatre, a chocolate tasting and a three course meal. Some brave folk even managed a dance in town afterwards. The theatre was hilarious, the chocolate heavenly, the food sumptuous and the Jazz musicians excellent. Overall a great night all round.  Thank you Paul and Steve!
