The Aotearoa Bike Challenge is a fun, free challenge which workplaces can compete in, to see who can get the most people to ride a bike for 10 minutes or more during the month of February.
To support the initiative, Abley organised several activities to encourage our staff to cycle. Both our Christchurch and Auckland offices had successful bike to work breakfast events, provided by the social club. In addition, a bike servicing day and lunchtime bike ride around Hagley Park with a picnic lunch was held in Christchurch.
What’s been most rewarding is the number of people who have been prepared to give it a go. We’ve had 89% participation in our Christchurch office and 73% participation in our Auckland office, which is an awesome result! We already have a high proportion of staff cycling to work on a regular basis, but this challenge has helped to increase the number of trips and encouraged some team members to get back on the bike, even if it had been several years since their last ride.
Did your company get behind the challenge? We’d love to hear all the things your business has been doing to encourage cycling in the workplace!
