Courtney Groundwater and Stacy Rendall are looking forward to presenting at the Survey and Spatial Annual Conference 2019 being held in Auckland this week. Our presentation shares the work we have done for Auckland Transport (AT) to improve community safety, focusing particularly on the methodology we developed for prioritising schools to receive safety treatments.
As part of an ongoing commitment to improving road safety, AT are keen to make it safer for more children to walk to school on a regular basis. In 2014, AT undertook an analysis with Abley to assess which of Auckland’s schools had the biggest potential for an increase in walkability. This analysis needed to be repeated and expanded to look at walkability across communities.
Abley’s analysis provided AT with a prioritised list of communities in Auckland which would benefit from an increase in walkability. AT have subsequently worked with industry partners to identify possible changes in the communities which would increase walkability, such as introducing zebra crossings at key intersections.
