Inappropriate or excessive speed is a major road safety issue in New Zealand and Australia, resulting in approximately a third of road accident deaths. Haris Zia of Abley is running a series of workshops throughout September in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart, Sydney and Brisbane as part of a research project commissioned by Austroads into the applicability of Infrastructure Risk Rating (IRR) for use by State and Local Governments.
This project involved developing an IRR web tool designed to assess road safety risk as an input to the speed limit setting process. These workshops will be of interest for all those responsible for speed management policy and transportation engineering.
