Stacey Rendall presented at the Transition Engineering Seminar held at the Universtiy of Canterbury today. His presentation entitled "100 Year Urban Transition Plan - From the Ground Up" applies the principles of Transition Engineering, that is engineering within constraints, to the redevelopment of cities. The project takes a 250-year design perspective with elements of Safety, Security, Sustainability and Profitability considered fundamental requirements for any functioning urban form. The project is currently being applied in Christchurch, as a greyfield redevelopment, to create a medium-density mixed-use urban village for 20,000 people.
