Four abstracts submitted to the 2014 2Walk and Cycle Conference by Abley staff have been accepted. Courtney Groundwater will present of the value of walking and cycling for an entire city. Ann-Marie Head will present on forecasting demand for new and upgraded cycle infrastructure. Stacy Rendall’s presentation reports the outcomes of research that aims to develop a web-based tool applicable in both New Zealand and Australia to assist practitioners to select the most appropriate pedestrian crossing and the right location. Jeanette Ward will present on balancing walking and cycling in town centre environments. The conference is being held in Nelson from 29 – 31 October.

Paul Durdin invited to International iRAP Committe Workshop

The International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) is dedicated to preventing more than 3,500 road deaths that occur every day worldwide. Once a year, iRAP brings together the best of the best from around the world to share their road safety and RAP ideas, innovations and outcomes. This year, Paul Durdin , has been invited to attend the annual workshop in Melbourne in September in recognition of his contribution in developing Urban KiwiRAP risk mapping protocols.

As a result of continued growth at Abley, we have recently employed the services of Andrew Wilson , our full-time CAD Technician. Andrew has eight years’ experience in CAD Design and most recently has worked on CAD design drawings ranging from content for reports, traffic management plans through to full intersection designs and road alignments. Andrew is a welcome addition to the team.

Four abstracts submitted to the 2014 NZ Esri User Conference by Abley staff have been accepted. Dale Harris will present on mapping road network performance using emerging digital data sources. Helen Roulston will present on the value of accessibility modelling. Natalie Scott will present on Automatic Mappping: Python, Properties and Pipelines and Subodh Dhakal will present on the New Zealand Police Speed Camera Site Selection .The conference is being held in Auckland from 18 – 20 August.

Two abstracts submitted to the Australasian Road Safety Research, Policing and Education Conference 2014 by Abley staff have been accepted. Paul Durdin and Dale Harris have co-authored a paper on 'Developing a Risk Prediction Model for a Safe System Signature Project.'  Paul has also had another paper accepted entitled 'Enhanced Identification of High-Risk Intersections.' The conference is being held in Melbourne from 12 - 14 November 2014.

The most recent worldwide Esri User Conference was held in San Diego where our Steve Abley was invited to present on law and enforcement and specifically the integration of GIS and speed cameras. This international work is furthering our reputation in the area of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and links nicely with the Ministry of Transport’s action plan for ITS ‘Transport in the digital age’ that was released in mind June.
