Jamie started off in the electronics industry as an electronics technician working on forklift chargers and solar inverters. He then went on to complete a computer science and geography degree at the University of Canterbury, graduating in 2014. While at university, he joined Telogis as an intern in 2012 working on their vehicle fleet management software and mobile applications. After graduation, he moved into a full-time role as a software automation engineer at Telogis and worked there for nearly 4 years. Most recently he completed ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) foundation certification.
What made you decide to become a Spatial Developer?
Having completed a computer science and geography degree at university I jumped at the opportunity to apply my passion for geography while being able to continue software development.
What did you do before joining Abley?
Previously I worked at Ryman Healthcare in their software development team working on their nurse care application.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Being able to improve or solve problems with technological solutions and seeing the positive impact that they have on people.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
Finding the best solution to a problem and keeping up to date with the latest trends in technology can be exhausting!
What has been your career highlight so far?
Working on software applications that have been scaled to thousands of users. I am also passionate about open source software and one project has over a million downloads a year.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy the outdoors with tramping, biking and fishing. However, you might find me hibernating inside playing video games in the winter. I am also a keen photographer and I am interested in astronomy but have yet to get a telescope.
