Kyle completed an undergraduate degree in Geography at the University of Canterbury, graduating in 2015, and completed the Postgraduate Diploma in GIS in 2016.
What made you decide to become an geospatial professional?
As an undergraduate student I enjoyed the use of spatial analysis in Urban settings, from Urban planning to health geography. I have a passion for Urban Geography and the applications of spatial analysis within the urban environment.
What did you do before joining Abley?
After my studies in 2016 I moved with my partner to New York City, where we lived for a year. This experience was the most important in my life as I lived in one of the most diverse cities in the world. It helped me grow as a person in so many ways, and I am incredibly grateful for that experience.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the challenging nature of the work, and the opportunities that are constantly provided to grow and learn.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
The nature of the tech industry requires you to stay agile and continue to progress. There are always new ways of approaching problems and understanding the wealth of tools at your disposal is both crucial and challenging.
What has been your career highlight so far?
Being able to start a career in this field at a relaxed and exciting workplace!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I am very passionate about various social and environmental issues, and try to live life in a way that challenges myself. I enjoy exploring new ways of reducing my impact on the planet, such as seeking out sustainable local food/products, and working towards a Zero Waste lifestyle. I enjoy being self-sufficient and appreciating the simple things in life.
