What made you decide to become a Operations Manager?

When I first started with Abley, my role was as an Office Administrator.  As the company has grown my role has changed to be a mixture of administration, marketing, human resources, and business process improvement.  Some of these tasks now sit with others, and I now lead the Business Performance team.  It is a very busy role and no two days are the same. 

What did you do before joining Abley?

Previously I worked at the University of Canterbury in a variety of roles from student recruitment, student advisor and departmental administrator.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The variety that it offers and the people that I work with.  It sounds corny, but the team at Abley are a great bunch to work with and it certainly makes the day more enjoyable.

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

Having to juggle a number of things at one time and making sure nothing slips through the cracks.  

What’s been your career highlight so far?

Completing my university degree in 2008.  Not an easy ask when you are working full-time, have a family and household to run.  It certainly tested my organisational skills!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I like to jog and cycle for fitness.  I am also a keen gardener, which I find very therapeutic.  In summer, my husband and I go camping in the caravan and, more recently, have taken up tramping again after a long break while our daughters grew up.
