Vishwanath is an experienced Engineer with leadership, programme management, client liaison, design management, construction management, MSQA and project management skills. He has a broad range of skills and experience on network maintenance contracts with varied models (Hybrid, Traditional and Alliance). His experience is ideally suited for leadership roles delivering great outcomes for our client and the business. He has led a variety of multi-disciplinary projects which are safety, optimisation and resilience related, from applying for funding to managing detailed designs and construction supervision. His expertise and experience in the transport disciplines and his ability to work with customers will provide certainty to the client in delivering the set objectives.
What made you decide to become a Transportation Engineer?
I have always liked working on innovative solutions. In the current role and with the expertise the team has, there is a perfect blend of technical and innovative thinking to make a real difference in the community through innovative solutions. This opportunity was too good to miss!
What did you do before joining Abley?
Before joining Abley, I had worked on State Highway Network Maintenance contracts in New Zealand for 16 years under various models such as traditional, hybrid, and alliance. With my background in Road Safety, I was involved in Safety works such as crash reduction studies, crash investigation, safety engineering reports, and safety projects design and construction management. Also, in the recent years, I have managed the design and construction of Optimisation and Resilience projects on the Auckland State highway network. Recently, I was also the project manager for multi-disciplinary detailed design projects for Auckland Transport.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
There is a real opportunity to combine the expertise in digital and road safety engineering, and to come up with innovative ways of working and delivering. I enjoy working on such solutions that can help clients to make smarter decisions and spending the available money in an efficient way.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
In the current circumstances, it is a challenge to cope with the ever-changing technology.. This is an opportunity as well to keep us on our toes to work in the ever-changing environment and work smartly with the tools available.
What has been your career highlight so far?
Being the Special Project team Leader at the Auckland Motorway Alliance where I was leading designers, construction project managers and draughtsmen from various organisations and meeting the competing demands, also achieving the best outcome for clients - I enjoyed this challenge a lot.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy playing cricket with my son. I am an umpire at Auckland Cricket, and this gives me an opportunity to understand the nitty gritty of cricket better.
